The highlights of our East Coast trip.
Waking up on Monday the 26th of March was really exciting as we were leaving for our East Coast Trip. We are travelling from Sydney to Cairns in 29 days with a campervan which is so excited! We will tell you all about our East Coast trip from the excited beginning until the exhausted end…
Our trip started in Gerringong where we had a farewell party before we left. We had the sweetest family we could wish for, it was like a second home.
But I guess you guys just want to hear more about the trip. We are going to divide our trip into different parts as we have so much to tell, let’s start with East Coast part I!
The first thing we had to do was pick up our Campervan in Sydney. We rented a 5-persons campervan from a company called Travel Wheels, we can say that we have a huge camper which is pretty awesome. Our first stop was in Port Macquarie, this stop already made our day as we could experience the beautiful rock paintings. We drove further to Coffs Harbour, there we just had a stop at a campsite for the night. The morning after we drove off to Byron Bay which was one of our ultimate highlights until now as we had our first surf lessons there. The first night we spended in Arts Factory, we could just park our van on the parking space and we could sleep in our camper, during our stay we could use the facilities of the hostel. It was a pretty cool hostel! The other two nights we spend on Belongil Fields caravan park. We can say that it was pretty expensive that weekend to camp somewhere as it was Easter weekend… Although we were pretty amazed about the beauty of Byron, the views left us breathless and the surfing left us full of bruises..;) Surfing was an amazing experience, we are glad that we tried it but we can say that it’s not as easy as you might think but it’s just the real Aussie experience so you should try it out! One thing about Byron Bay we also really want to share with you guys is the vibe, it’s so relaxed and laid back which is awesome!
Nimbin, the Australian mecca for hippies and people who love to smoke a joint, so if you’re into that you should check it out. After Byron on our way to the Gold Coast we had a quick stop in Nimbin. It is worth going to, it’s a really special little colourful town. You should stop in Nimbin if you can!
Next up we’ve got the Gold Coast or the Miama of Australia. There we had some problems with finding a campsite everything was fully booked because of the Commonwealth Games so we opted for a hostel for two nights and we were pretty glad we did that. We stayed at the Surfers Paradise Backpackers Resort which was an awesome hostel, we really want to recommend it. You have everything you need there, we got a little appartement with two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom & toilet and a lounge area, the beds were so comfortable after sleeping in the campervan for a week. In one of the next post we will give you all the links and addresses of good, cheap (free) campsites and hostels!!
*Btw the Gold Coast is a pretty special place for me (Lauren) because I got my septum there. I already wanted it for a long time but I was a bit scared but I did it and I’m so glad with it! Check it out at our East Coast Trip Part I photo album!
And then we drove to the next big city, Brisbane! Here we actually just had a quick stop to charge our phones as we camped on a free campsite the night before and our phones died… Brisbane is just a big city like Sydney, it was nice to have a look around but you shouldn’t spend more then a day there. 😉 So we drove off to Noosa, as we were running a little bit out of time we just spend one night in Noosa on a campsite. It was a very good campsite, very clean, quite. During our stay we went to the beach and had a look around town which we really enjoyed.
So this was part I of our East Coast trip and there is still a lot more to come, but we want to keep you guys a bit curious. So stay tuned for our 4×4 Fraser Island tour and Castaway trip!
Cheers!
