Camping in the Blue Mountains

Camping in the Blue Mountains

“Memories made in the mountains stay in our hearts forever.”

Writing about this adventure needs a special setting, lying in bed with a cup of tea and this cute little Beagle next to me, thinking about all the fun things we did on our 2-day trip to the Blue Mountains. It makes us so happy that we can share this awesome adventure with you guys and maybe convince you to start travelling too. You should!

Where shall we start..

Preparing our car for camping, that’s the first thing we had to do before we left. We could use the car of Shannon’s nephew with a mattress in the back, we putted our stuff in and drove off. First we made a quick stop in Sydney at the famous Hard Rock Café to get some t-shirts and we also needed to organise our Alice Springs tour. After our quick citytrip we continued our drive to the Blue Mountains. It was a very hot day and our car had no aircon, so you could imagine that it was a hot 2 hour drive but the nice views made us forget about the heat. Our first stop was at the Bulls Camp Reserve, a free camping spot equipped with toilets and a cold shower, where we would spend the night.

*For camping spots download the WikiCamps app ($4 to download but very handy and easy to use)

It was still too early to stay at the campground so we continued our drive to Wentworth Falls Lake, a quiet park by the lake with a playground for the kids and barbecues to cook up some lunch . Unfortunately the weather was not great so we didn’t stay long. As the sun was going down we returned to the camp reserve and ate our homemade lasagne with a good glass of red wine. Completely satisfied we went to bed.

It was a pretty hot night, you can say that camping in a car without mosquito net is only good for one night, your car needs aeration. We woke up as the sun came up, there is nothing more beautiful than waking up next to your love with a sunrise. After a quick brekkie we wanted to go and explore the beauty of the Blue Mountains. Our first stop was at Wentworth Falls, the Jamison Lookout there was stunning, that view just made your day! Past the Jamison Lookout you had the Wentworth Falls Lookout which was also very beautiful but it couldn’t compete with this one below..

We drove further to Katoomba where we stopped for a quick coffee, as we needed it 😉
Katoomba was a pretty old town, the people, the shops and buildings were anything but modern it was quite special to experience but the coffee was good. The Three Sisters were waiting for us, we were pretty excited to go there. The Echo Point Lookout was so touristy, so overcrowded but we took our photos and followed the Three Sisters walk. We stopped at the Oreades Lookout, walked across the Honeymoon Bridge which connects to the first sister and then took the Giant Stairway which counts 900-plus steel and stone steps. That was pretty tiring but we made it all the way down. After the inspiring walk through Jamison Valley we needed a swim, we went to Jellybean Pool, a pool with natural spring water. It’s a quite amazing swimming spot to visit, it’s like your private little beach. You should go there!

Completely refreshed we started our drive back home with a quick stopover at McDonalds. Ssh!
