Honeymoon Bay, don’t know if we would spend our Honeymoon there but it’s definitely worth going to. It’s a picturesque bay in Jervis Bay, lovely to spend a day with family, friends or your love. We went there with our au pair family. Honeymoon Bay offers camping on weekends and school holidays, at times the area is closed for Defence exercises.
As the area around Honeymoon Bay is used for Defence exercises you first have to pass a security point where they ask your number so they can call you at anytime, it’s just for security reasons. When you pass this security point you drive over a gravel road, it’s quite amazing to drive along this road. One tip drive a proper car, our car was almost falling apart as it was a gravel road. Always remember this tip as it will make your trip more comfortable! 😉
Honeymoon Bay is a crescentic shaped rocky bay, with a 20 m wide opening to Jervis Bay. It contains a curving 100 m long beach that faces west out of the small opening in the low rocks. So as you can read it’s a pretty small beach and the day we went there it was pretty crowded and touristy, that was unfortunate, but we did have a great time! Honeymoon Bay is a good spot for snorkelling, there are some beautiful fish. The water is very clear what makes your photos pretty awesome!
So one more tip don’t forget your camera!
On our way home we stopped at the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse. We drove again along the gravel road which may be deteriorate during bad weather and at times closed because of Naval gunnery training exercises. We just made a quick stop, to see the lighthouse and the spectacular escarpment at Jervis Bay. The property was surrounded by fences because otherwise you could fall of the cliffs. There were people abseiling. There was no access to the inside of the lighthouse, but the view from the ground of the lighthouse alone, makes this drive worthwhile.
You must stop there when you are planning a trip to Honeymoon Bay!
